Kiss The Girls by James Patterson

This is the second installation of James Patterson’s Alex Cross series. A friend of mine lent it to me (a year ago actually) but I only got to reading it last week!

Alex Cross is Washington DC’s policeman and psychologist extraordinaire. In Kiss The Girls, Alex finds himself in this baffling case where two, perfect crimes are happening simultaneously. Two killers are constantly plotting and communicating with each other. One of them, the “Casanova”, rounds up exceptionally beautiful and powerful girls and keeps them in his personal harem, while the other brutally murders women and calls himself the “Gentlemen Caller”.

This psychological thriller novel is as exciting as it is adrenaline rushing. This book got me hooked right from the Prologue, all the way till probably somewhere in the middle of the book. I felt that there were several plot holes that constantly bugged me towards the end, and some parts which I felt needs a little more explanation and less probing into Cross’ personal life and feelings (which I must admit is a tad cringe-worthy at some point, and probably one of the reasons why I’m not giving it a perfect 4/5).

Often in the book I kept wrestling with thoughts of “no, this can’t be Casanova, it’s too obvious” and “wait, maybe he is”.. But I have to say the big reveal didn’t quite shock me as I would have expected it to be. Unexpected, yes, but it all didn’t quite seem to fit nicely, in my opinion. It would be great to have a discussion on this, still feeling quite dissatisfied about how it turned out! Thoughts?

Thriller/mystery/crime fans, this is one to read. Generally a fast page-turner and suspense-filled story. Kiss The Girls is not enough to get me raving and might have slightly disappointed me with the closure, but it’s just enough for that surge of action and adrenaline I occasionally crave.

Fun Fact: Was about to comment on how this novel is movie-worthy, but I only found out (after Googling, of course) that it’s already been done back in 1997! Stars Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd. I should probably check that out :)
